Evening Program Structure

The country’s fourth best public university evening MBA program is an intensified, predominantly part-time program specifically designed to meet the needs of working professionals who want to advance their careers.

The current length of the UNCG Evening MBA is 42 credit hours with no prerequisite courses, making it possible for you to now earn your UNCG MBA in just 28 months of part-time study. Intentionally flexible, the program’s evening-only coursework allows you to tailor your education to your schedule. Evening courses are offered Monday through Thursday with classes meeting one night per week, usually from 6:30 to 9:20pm. You can enter in either the fall or spring semester and work toward your UNCG MBA year-round by taking courses in the summer. Most of the electives and courses offered in the summer are available online.

The evening program immerses you in a variety of learning formats: experiential learning using live case studies; projects with area firms; interaction with executives from a variety of industries; lectures and discussion; as well as group projects and presentations. The curriculum provides you with a solid foundation in general management practice and gives you the opportunity to develop depth or breadth in subject areas that support your career goals.

You should think of your educational experience as an interactive dialogue between yourself, your instructors, and your student colleagues. The UNCG MBA is a cooperative venture designed to produce leaders with the wisdom and judgment required to compete successfully in today’s complex and uncertain business environment. The UNCG MBA features nine to twelve hours of elective credit for you to focus on your area of interest. A minimum of nine credit hours of electives is required for the evening program. Nine credit hours are also required for concentrations. Certificates can be completed in twelve credit hours.

  • Open Electives Option (9 credit hours) – Choose from electives in conflict resolution, consumer apparel, entrepreneurship, finance, gerontology, global business, information technology, marketing and nonprofit management.
  • Concentration Option (9 credit hours)


    Select three of the following courses:MBA 723 – Corporate Governance (3.0 hrs) – Current issues in and theories of corporate governance. Topics includes examination of internal and external corporate controls, stakeholder theories and international governance comparisons.MBA 721 – Financial Statement Analysis and Valuation (3.0 hrs) – Value with emphasis on equity analysis and valuation for public and private firms. Other types and purposes of valuation also covered.

    MBA 720 – Investments (3.0 hrs) – Explores theories and applications related to portfolio theory, asset allocation, return predictability, and anomalies. Risk management including the use of derivatives also covered.

    MBA 724 – Financial Institutions (3.0 hrs) – Survey course intended for those interested in financial services careers and in general finance. Topics include financial institutions, investment funds, trading markets, and financial market regulation.

    Information Technology

    Select three of the following courses:ISM 671 – Data Management (3.0 hrs) – Fundamental concepts of database management systems, including database design, implementation, and the use of the SQL query language.ISM 672 – Web Programming (3.0 hrs) – Apply fundamental programming concepts in designing and implementing applications for the web. Foundations for developing web applications.

    ISM 673 – Telecommunications and Distributed Networks (3.0 hrs) – Technology related to internal and external network/telecommunication services. Managerial and business issues related to the identification, acquisition, and management of network/telecommunications services in the contemporary enterprise.

    ISM 675 – Business Analytics (3.0 hrs) – The interactive process of analyzing and exploring enterprise data to find valuable insights that can be exploited for competitive advantage. IT capabilities and infrastructure needed are discussed.

    ISM 676 – Information Security and Privacy (3.0 hrs) – Study of the technical, managerial, and organization issues in systems security, including systems security models, analysis of business process and technology for systems security, and information assurance.

    ISM 678 – Project Management (3.0 hrs) – Modern methods of defining, planning, and executing large IT and other projects. Computer software and network modeling are used to support the efficient scheduling of interdependent activities.

    ISM 679 – Special Topics in Information Technology (3.0 hrs) – Specific course title identified each time the course is offered. Selected topics will address contemporary issues in information technology and its management. Course may be repeated for credit when topic varies.


    Select three of the following courses:MBA 733 – International Marketing Management (3.0 hrs) – Activities that direct the flow of products to markets in a transnational, transcultural context; transcultural consumer behavior; channel strategy, physical distribution, promotion, and pricing.MBA 732 – Consumer Behavior (3.0 hrs) – Applying behavioral theories to understand consumer consumption behaviors and the effect of environmental and psychological influences on the consumer decision making process.

    MBA 731 – Brand Management (3.0 hrs) – Examines brand management strategies, tools and decisions faced by organizations in planning, building and measuring brand equity for long term profitability.

    MBA 730 – Marketing Research (3.0 hrs) – Defining the purpose of marketing research, selecting a data gathering method, writing a survey/questionnaire, and sampling methods. Using statistics and interpreting the results to make marketing decisions.

    Supply Chain Management

    Select three of the following courses:SCM 650 – Supply Chain Management Concepts and Principles (3.0 hrs) Presentation of core knowledge related to supply chain management. Provides insight into the complex, cross-functional elements of demand and supply planning and execution in a global environment.SCM 651 – Transportation, Logistics & Distribution Management (3.0 hrs) Focus on contemporary management practices, sustainability metrics and technology applications within transportation, logistics and distribution center operations as part of the global supply chain.

    SCM 652 – Strategic Cost, Design, Procurement and Contracts (3.0 hrs) Overview of strategic cost management and procurement in the supply chain; tactics in effective management of the procurement process and total cost of ownership; management of total supply chain costs.

    SCM 655 – Global Supply Operations Strategy (3.0 hrs) Presentation of strategies, resources and information system requirements to plan, procure, create and deliver products globally. Emphasis on the complex interactions and need for collaboration between inter-film processes.

    SCM 678 – Project Management (3.0 hrs) Modern methods of defining, planning and executing large scale projects. Computer software and network modeling are used to support the efficient scheduling of interdependent activities.
